starting time outdoor movieThe sun is very powerful and there is no video projector in existence nor will there ever be that can compete with the sun in terms of light output.

Because of the amazing power of the sun, your outdoor event should begin shortly after sunset.

The best time to start an outdoor movie or other outdoor event on one of our huge screens is called the end of Civil Twilight time and each day of the year has a beginning and ending Civil Twilight time.

As you will find in the table below, the recommended start time varies greatly throughout the year.

The end of civil twilight actually occurs after sunset and varies according to your location on Earth.

The table below used Louisville, KY as the location since most of our business comes from that area. Since the areas we serve are only 60 miles away, the times shown below should be accurate for your location.

If you want to find your exact time for your exact location, go to the U.S. Naval Observatory site as they are the experts.

Can You Start Your Outdoor Event Any Earlier?

Depending on the weather for the day (sunny, cloudy, gloomy, etc) you may be able to start 10 to 15 minutes earlier than the times shown in the tables above. Positioning of the screen also makes a difference. If the screen is facing away from the sunset, this will really help to start the event earlier.

Light output from the Sun is equal to billions and billions of lumens. Compare that to a $30,000 video projector with 15,000 lumens, and the video projector doesn’t have a prayer. You could spend a million dollars on multiple video projectors and they still wouldn’t have a chance compared to the sun.

This is why the outdoor event can’t start much earlier than the times shown in the tables above. We hope you understand. We have looked for other ways to start events earlier, but they are all very expensive at this time.

If you choose one of our We-Do-It-All or Drop-Off-Pick-Up packages, we’ll make sure we have the video projector up and going before the recommended event start time. You’ll be able to see the picture on the screen, and we give you the option to start your event whenever you want. We can start earlier, but we like you to know that the picture on the screen will look much better as it gets darker and darker. You will be amazed at the quality of the picture on our extremely high gain inflatable screens.

We’re here to serve you so just let us know how we can help. If you need to start an event earlier, a tent is a good choice as it can block sunlight. An indoor event is also a very good option. Gyms are usually large enough for some of our bigger inflatable screens. Just let us know what you’re planning for your event, and we can help.

If you have any questions, please let us know. We’ll be happy to answer any questions for you.

Another Tip For A Successful Outdoor Movie Or Other Event

Our powerful video projectors along with high screen gain allow us to always provide a bright, crisp, and clear on-screen picture for your event.

A darker environment around the event area will produce an even better picture.

We’ve done many events with many outdoor security lights and other external sources of light. The on-screen picture has still been very good.

If you want to ensure the best on-screen picture, though, we highly recommend turning off any external sources of light. Many security lights are very bright and create a reflection on the screen. Some security lights are on timers. At a recent event, people were amazed at how much better the picture on the screen was when the light went out. They were happy with the picture with the light but were amazed once it went out.

All security lights will be wired to one of the breakers in your circuit panel. If you figure out which circuit breaker is powering the security light, we can turn it off right before the event begins and turn it back on right after the event to provide light for the people who attended your event.

Of course, the lights can be left on but we thought you might like this tip to improve your event even further.

Another quick tip, sometimes a busy street can cause some distraction to your event due to headlights. We can position the screen so the headlight interference will be minimized. It’s never a big deal but the little details can make a huge difference. We want your event to be a huge success so we’ll give you tips on how to make it just a little more successful.
